- Price: 199 DKK/month excl. VAT (€27/month if you have chosen the EU · EUR market in the portal). No lock-in, cancel at any time. The price covers 1 user and 1 agreement (one connected Microsoft user). Each extra user and each extra agreement costs 99.50 DKK/month excl. VAT (€13.50). Also included in the Consile Studio membership and the free edition. See Pricing.
- Users: whoever buys Excel automatically gets the included access. If more colleagues need Excel in their AI, an administrator gives them access under Team in the portal (choose All tools next to Excel on the person’s page). An extra user is billed pro rata from the day access is given. A colleague without access can still see the tools in their AI, but every lookup is refused with a message to ask an administrator for access. If you have the Consile Studio membership, an administrator instead gives one membership licence per person, and it also covers Excel. See Team.
- Multiple Microsoft users: the portal calls each connection to the system an
agreement. One agreement reads through one Microsoft user and reaches the
workbooks that user can open. You need one more agreement if your AI should also
read as another Microsoft user, for example in another Microsoft tenant. An
administrator clicks Add agreement on the Connections card on the
connector’s page in the portal. Each agreement gets its own address, for example
https://mcp.consile.ai/excel-2/mcp, which you add as a separate connector in your AI. Under the Consile Studio membership and in the free edition, other rules apply to adding an agreement. See Connect Excel. - Endpoint:
https://mcp.consile.ai/excel/mcp(your own named connector in your AI).
What does it require?
- Workbooks in OneDrive or SharePoint. The connector reads workbooks stored in OneDrive for work or school or in a SharePoint document library. It cannot reach files on a local disk or in a personal OneDrive.
- A Microsoft work or school account. You log in with an account in your organization at Microsoft. A personal Microsoft account cannot be used.
- Access to the files. Your AI only sees the workbooks the connected Microsoft user can open.
- Possibly a Microsoft administrator. Many organizations do not let ordinary users approve the permission to read files. Then an administrator in your organization at Microsoft must approve Consile the first time. See Connect Excel.
Prerequisites
1
Subscription
The connector must be bought in the portal. See
Buy a connector.
2
Microsoft approved
Log in with your Microsoft work account, and approve Consile at Microsoft. The
connection applies to your whole Consile account. See
Connect Excel.
3
Access for your user
If there are several users on the account, an administrator must assign you
Excel under Team in the portal. Whoever bought the connector has access from
the start. If you have created your own Consile account, but belong to a company
that already has Excel, ask your administrator for an invitation to the team
instead of buying again. See Team.
4
Your AI connected
Each user adds the connector in their own AI and logs in with their own Consile
login. See Connect Claude or
Connect ChatGPT.
Read-only
When you connect, you approve Microsoft’s permissionsFiles.Read.All (read the
files the user has access to) and User.Read (read the user’s own profile) plus
offline_access, which keeps the connection alive. Both permissions are pure read
permissions at Microsoft:
- The connector has no write tools. All twelve tools can only read.
- Consile only sends read requests to Microsoft.
- The access cannot change a cell, a formula or a file, not even outside Consile.
What can it do? (tools)
You do not need to know the tool names. You ask in natural language, and your AI picks the right one itself. When your AI calls them, they are calledexcel__<tool> (for example excel__find_workbooks).

Together with SharePoint
Without a search text,find_workbooks finds workbooks among your recently used
files, including in SharePoint. With a search text, it searches your own OneDrive,
or a document library when your AI knows the library’s id. The Excel connector
cannot list a SharePoint site’s document libraries itself. If you also have the
SharePoint connector, your AI can find the library and
the file there and then read the workbook with the Excel connector.
Limitations
- Read-only: the connector cannot write to cells, change formulas or create files. See Read-only.
- Only OneDrive and SharePoint, only work accounts: files on a local disk, in a personal OneDrive or attached to an email cannot be read. Personal Microsoft accounts are not supported.
- File types: the reading tools are made for .xlsx and .xlsm files. Older .xls
files and CSV files are not found by
find_workbooks. - The user’s permissions apply: your AI only sees the files the connected Microsoft user can open. If the user lacks access, or your administrator has not approved the permission, Microsoft answers with an error (403), and your AI is told about it. Reconnecting does not help. Instead, ask a Microsoft 365 administrator for access.
- Large sheets are split up:
get_used_rangereturns at most 1,000 rows and shows whether the sheet has more.get_rangereads at most 1,000 rows and 100 columns at a time, so your AI reads a large sheet in pieces. An empty sheet answers with the error that it does not exist. - Charts as images:
get_chart_imagegives a picture of the chart. Your AI reads the numbers behind the chart in the sheet’s cells. - Microsoft’s call limit: Microsoft limits how many calls can be made in a short time. If a lookup hits the limit, your AI is told to wait a little and ask for fewer rows.
- Explanatory errors, but not always: for the common errors, the connector gives your AI an explanation: an access that must be connected again, missing access, a file or sheet that does not exist, a cell range that is too large and a request that Microsoft refuses. Other errors, for example a timeout or an error at Microsoft, only give the general error “Tool invocation failed.”
- The access is renewed automatically, but can stop: if the renewal fails, or
Consile is removed in your Microsoft organization, your AI is told that the
connection must be set up again from the Consile portal. The portal can still show
Connected, because the stored access is still there. Only an administrator can
reconnect: if the agreement says Access revoked, click Reconnect.
Otherwise the administrator chooses Disconnect in the menu next to the
agreement and then clicks Connect. You can also ask your AI for a new
connection link in the connector that belongs to the agreement (for example
excel-2). See Connect Excel.
