# Own connectors

> Build an own connector for one customer with exactly the tools a person needs. It gets its own URL and works like an ordinary connector in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants.

*[Læs siden på dansk](https://docs.consile.ai/studio/egne-connectors.md)*

An own connector is a selection of tools from one customer's agreements. It gets
its own URL, and the people allowed to use it add it in their AI assistant as an
ordinary connector. You find your own connectors under **Studio** on the
[Your own connectors](https://app.consile.ai/studio) tab.

This page is about the **AI assistant** type. An own connector for an AI bot is
built the same way, but has its own rules. See [AI bots](https://docs.consile.ai/en/studio/ai-bots.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> An own connector always belongs to one customer and can only use that
> customer's own agreements and CVR. See the rule in
> [Studio](https://docs.consile.ai/en/studio/introduction.md).

## Build an own connector

Everyone in the organization can build an own connector for AI assistants. The
person who builds it becomes its owner.

**1. Click Build your own connector**

Open **Studio**, choose the **Your own connectors** tab, and click **Build
your own connector**.

**2. Choose the type**

Choose **AI assistant**, and click **Next**. The type cannot be changed
afterwards. Only administrators can choose **AI bot**.

**3. Choose the customer**

Choose the customer under *Which customer is the connector for?* The customer
cannot be changed afterwards. If the customer is missing an agreement, move
it to the customer first. See [Customers](https://docs.consile.ai/en/studio/customers.md).

**4. Give the connector a name**

Type the name under **The connector's name**, for example the customer's name,
or what it is for.

**5. Choose what it starts with**

Under **Start with** you choose **No tools yet** or **All reading tools**.
The tools always come only from the chosen customer's agreements.

**6. Create it**

Click **Create it for \<customer>**. If the connector costs extra, the
window shows the price first. See [Price for more own
connectors](#price-for-more-own-connectors).

## Choose tools

The connector's page shows the customer's tools on one side and the connector on
the other. Drag over the tools the connector should be able to use, or click
**+** next to a tool. Your choices are saved automatically, and the portal shows
*Saved*.

* An own connector can have at most 50 tools.
* The **Tools in the connector** meter shows how many are chosen, for example
*12 of 50*. It turns yellow at 40 tools, and at 50 the connector is full.
* The more tools an AI assistant gets, the harder it is for it to choose the
right one. The portal recommends keeping the connector under 40. If it needs to
do a lot, split it in two, for example one for reading and one for posting.
* Only the customer's agreements and CVR are on the list. A paused agreement is
not on it until it has been confirmed. See [Customers](https://docs.consile.ai/en/studio/customers.md).

Which tools you can choose depends on your role:

* **Administrator:** *As an administrator you see every tool. Others see only the
ones they may use.* These are the tools the organization has switched on. See
  [Tools and new tools](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/tools.md).
* **Member:** *You see only the tools your administrator has given you access
to.* If you do not have access to a system under [Team](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/team.md), you
  cannot choose its tools.

Each person who uses the connector gets only the tools in it that they themselves
have access to. So an administrator can put in a tool that a colleague cannot
use.

## Instructions for the AI assistant

The **Instructions for the AI assistant** field is optional. The text is sent
along with the connector, so the AI assistant knows what it is for, for example
*Answer in English, and use the ledger figures only.*

* The instructions can be at most 2,000 characters.
* They are saved when you leave the field.
* If the connector is shared with colleagues, only an administrator can edit the
  instructions.

## Add it in your AI assistant

The card **The connector's URL** shows the connector's address. It has the form
`https://mcp.consile.ai/studio/s_<id>/mcp`, where `<id>` is 16 characters. Copy
it, and paste it into the AI assistant as an ordinary connector.

The **Add to an AI assistant** button shows the steps for Claude, ChatGPT,
Copilot, grok.com and local AI. In Claude they are:

1. Open Settings and choose Connectors.
2. Choose Add custom connector and paste the connector's URL.
3. Log in with your Consile account when you are asked to.

Each person logs in with their own Consile login. See also
[Connect Claude](https://docs.consile.ai/en/connect/connect-claude.md) and
[Connect ChatGPT](https://docs.consile.ai/en/connect/connect-chatgpt.md).

### Who can use the URL?

Only the owner and the colleagues the connector is shared with get tools from
the URL. Everyone else gets no tools, even if they are in your organization.

An administrator can see all the organization's own connectors in the portal. If
an administrator wants to use an own connector a colleague has built, it has to
be shared with the administrator.

## Share with colleagues

Only administrators can share an own connector, and only with people on your
team.

**1. Click Share**

Open the connector, and click **Share**. The window says, for example, *Pick
who should be able to use it in their AI assistant. It is still only for
\<customer>.*

**2. Choose the people**

Select the colleagues who should be able to use it. Next to each person it
says how many of the connector's tools that person can use, for example *Can
use 6 of 16*. If a colleague is missing access, **Give access** takes you to
[Team](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/team.md).

**3. Save**

Click **Save**. The portal says *Sharing saved.*

* Sharing does not give access to more systems. Each person can only use the
tools in the connector that they themselves have access to.
* A shared connector still counts against the owner.
* An own connector for an AI bot cannot be shared.

A colleague who has had the connector shared with them sees it under **Your own
connectors**, but cannot change it. The page shows, for example, *You can use 6
of 16 tools.*

## Who can change an own connector?

* The owner and administrators can change the tools and the name, and deactivate
  and delete it.
* Only administrators can edit the instructions on a shared connector.
* A member sees their own connectors, the ones shared with them, and the ones
whose owner has left the team. An administrator sees all of them.

## Rename

The owner and administrators can rename the connector in the title at the top of
its page. The URL does not change, so AI assistants that use it keep working.

## Deactivation and activation

If an own connector needs to rest for a while, you can deactivate it instead of
deleting it. Click **Deactivate** next to **Delete**, and confirm *Deactivate
\<name>?*

* It keeps its name, tools, shares and URL.
* The URL does not answer until it is activated again. The AI assistant is told
  that the connector is deactivated.
* It does not count against the included own connectors.
* It stays on the list with the **Deactivated** badge and on the
**Deactivated** tab. The tab appears when there is at least one.

The owner and administrators can deactivate an own connector for AI assistants.

You activate it again with **Activate**:

* An administrator can activate all own connectors.
* A member can activate their own, the ones shared with them, and the ones that
say *The owner has left the team*.
* The person who activates it becomes its owner, and the connector then counts
against that person. The portal says *You become its owner, so it counts
  against you.*
* If activating it costs extra because the included ones are used, only an
administrator can do it, and the price is shown first. A member sees *It costs
extra to activate, because the included own connectors are in use. An
administrator can activate it and share it with you.*

## When a member leaves the team

If an administrator removes a member under [Team](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/team.md), this happens
in Studio:

* The member's own connectors are deactivated. They keep their URL, their tools
and the shares other colleagues have.
* The member's AI bots are deactivated and paused.
* Shares to the member are removed.
* A colleague with room can activate one of the connectors and becomes its
owner. The list says *The owner has left the team*.

## Delete

Click **Delete** on the connector's page, and confirm *Delete \<name>?* The
connector and its URL go away, and AI assistants that use it lose access
immediately. Your connections and your tools do not change.

## Price for more own connectors

How many own connectors are included is in
[How many own connectors can you have?](https://docs.consile.ai/en/studio/introduction.md#how-many-own-connectors-can-you-have)
Under **Your own connectors** you see how many you have used, for example *Own
connectors: 3 of 3*.

**Without membership and in the free edition**, the organization has 1 own
connector in total, and you cannot buy more. Once it has been built, nobody in the
organization can build a new one until it is deleted or deactivated. More are
available through [the Consile Studio membership](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/membership.md).

**Under the membership**, an administrator can buy more for 49 DKK/month excl.
VAT each (€6.50):

* When the next one costs extra, the portal says *The included own connectors are
in use*. That can happen even if you have room left yourself, for example when
colleagues have used the shared pool. The banner explains why.
* The window shows the price before the connector is created, for example
*+49.00 kr a month from today, prorated. It goes on the membership.* and *If
you delete it again, it stays billed until \<date>.*
* If you delete or deactivate a connector you bought, it is not credited. If you
build a new one in the same period, it reuses the slot, and the window says *No
change to the bill: the slot is paid for until \<date>.*
* A member cannot buy more. The portal says *An administrator can buy more at a
price per connector, or share one with you.*
* Under [Subscription](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/subscription.md), the ones you bought are shown on
the membership's line, for example *2 extra own connectors*.
