# Connect HubSpot Marketing Email

> Log in with HubSpot and approve the Consile HubSpot Marketing Email app for your marketing emails. The access is renewed automatically and can be revoked. Read + guardrailed write.

*[Læs siden på dansk](https://docs.consile.ai/connect/forbind-hubspot-email.md)*

You connect HubSpot Marketing Email by logging in with HubSpot and approving the
Consile HubSpot Marketing Email app for your HubSpot portal. The result is an
access token that Consile stores encrypted per customer. Your AI never sees the
token itself.

The connector has its own URL, `mcp.consile.ai/hubspot-email/mcp`, with only its
own tools. The price is 149 DKK/month excl. VAT for one user and one HubSpot
portal. Each extra user costs 74.50 DKK/month excl. VAT. See
[Pricing](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/pricing.md). HubSpot Marketing Email is also included in
[the Consile Studio membership](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/membership.md) and
[the free edition](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/free-edition.md). Colleagues get access when an
administrator assigns them HubSpot Marketing Email under **Team** in the portal.
Each user then adds the connector in their own AI and logs in with their own
Consile login. See [Team](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/team.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> An administrator must have bought HubSpot Marketing Email in the
> [portal](https://app.consile.ai), or the system must be included in your plan
> ([the free edition](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/free-edition.md) or
> [the Consile Studio membership](https://docs.consile.ai/en/portal/membership.md)), and you must have connected your AI
> ([Claude](https://docs.consile.ai/en/connect/connect-claude.md) or [ChatGPT](https://docs.consile.ai/en/connect/connect-chatgpt.md)).
> You must be able to log in as the HubSpot user that has access to the portal you
> want to connect. The connection applies to your whole Consile account, so it
> only has to be made once. Anyone on the team can connect as long as HubSpot
> Marketing Email is not connected. Only an administrator can reconnect or
> disconnect.

> [!NOTE]
>
> HubSpot Marketing Email uses its own HubSpot app, Consile HubSpot Marketing
> Email, separate from the app for the HubSpot CMS connector (Consile HubSpot
> CMS). If you have both connectors, you approve two apps, and they are listed
> separately under connected apps in HubSpot. Uninstalling one does not affect
> the other.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Unlike our pure data connectors, HubSpot Marketing Email can also write: your
> AI can read your marketing emails, work in drafts without confirmation and,
> behind clear safety barriers, send and change live emails. See
> [Actions & guardrails](https://docs.consile.ai/en/essentials/actions-and-guardrails.md) before you start
> using the write functions.

## Requirements for your HubSpot portal

The connected HubSpot portal must be on Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise.
Sending and publishing also require Enterprise or the transactional email add-on.

> [!WARNING]
>
> A Starter or Free portal cannot grant the necessary permissions, and the
> connection is not completed. Check your subscription in HubSpot before you
> connect.

## How to connect

**1. Open the connector in the portal**

Open HubSpot Marketing Email in the [portal](https://app.consile.ai). When the
connector is bought but not connected, it shows as **Not connected**. Click
**Connect now** at the top of the page, or **Connect** on the **Connections**
card.

**2. Authorise access**

If you have not yet accepted Consile's current terms, the dialog starts with
the **Terms** step: check the box and click **Accept and continue**. The
**Connect HubSpot** step then shows the permissions Consile asks for
(`content` and `marketing-email`). Click **Authorise access**. You are sent to
HubSpot's own login and approval page.

**3. Log in with HubSpot**

Log in as the HubSpot user that has access to the portal you want to connect.
Choose the right portal if you have several. The access follows the portal you
approve. You can connect one HubSpot portal per subscription. If an
administrator reconnects and chooses a different portal, the new connection
replaces the old one.

**4. Approve the Consile HubSpot Marketing Email app**

HubSpot shows the Consile HubSpot Marketing Email app and the permissions it
asks for. Confirm to continue. You are then sent back to the portal
automatically.

> [!TIP]
>
> You land on a page in the portal that confirms **HubSpot Marketing Email is
> connected**. Click **Go to connector**. The connector now shows as
> **Connected**. If you have not already added the connector in your AI, you
> find the address `https://mcp.consile.ai/hubspot-email/mcp` in the **Add it
> to your AI assistant** card and add it as a custom connector.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If the connection does not go through, the portal shows **Connection was not
> completed** with a technical reason. Click **Try again**.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Always start the connection from the Consile portal or from a link your AI gives
> you. Consile cannot link an approval that is started somewhere else, for example
> directly in HubSpot, to your account, and the connection fails.

> [!TIP]
>
> You can also start the connection from the chat. If you ask your AI for
> something before HubSpot is connected, the connector answers with a secure link
> that you open in the browser to approve HubSpot. You can also ask your AI for a
> link directly (the `connect_account` tool). The link works for 10 minutes.

## What exactly am I approving?

In one approval step, Consile asks for the set of permissions (*scopes*) that the
connector's functions use:

| Scope | What it is used for |
| - | - |
| `content` | Reading and editing marketing emails, drafts, revisions and A/B variations as well as aggregated statistics |
| `marketing-email` | Sending and publishing emails (requires Enterprise or the transactional email add-on) |
| `oauth` | HubSpot's basic OAuth permission, which HubSpot adds to all app approvals. On its own, it gives no access to your emails |

`content` is a combined read and write permission: HubSpot has no pure read
variant. What your AI can actually do is limited by the connector's tools and
barriers (see below).

> **Read + work behind guardrails**
>
> The connector can read your marketing emails and work with drafts. Drafts,
> clones and A/B variants require no confirmation. Changing the live email,
> sending, cancelling, deleting, discarding and restoring require your explicit
> confirmation; otherwise you only get a preview.

> **One portal**
>
> The approval applies to the HubSpot portal you log in to. You connect one
> portal per subscription.

> **Encrypted per customer**
>
> The token is stored encrypted with a key that applies only to your own
> account, and is never logged.

> **Your AI never sees it**
>
> Your AI is never given the token itself, only answers to your questions.

## What your AI can read

The read tools cover your marketing emails (regular sends, automated emails, A/B
and RSS emails), drafts, revisions and the opposite A/B variation, as well as
aggregated statistics after sending (sent, delivered, opened, clicks, bounces),
both in total and spread over time.

## Write functions and guardrails

HubSpot Marketing Email has 19 tools: 8 for reading and 11 for writing. Your AI
calls them for you as `hubspot-email__<tool>` (for example
`hubspot-email__publish_email`).

The safety is built into the connector:

* **Drafts require no confirmation.** Creating an email (`create_email`, which is
always made as `DRAFT`), editing the draft (`update_email_draft`), cloning
  (`clone_email`) or creating an A/B variation (`create_email_ab_variation`)
happens without confirmation. None of them send to a contact list, and a newly
created email can never be published or scheduled through them.
* **Sending and live changes require confirmation.** Sending/publishing
  (`publish_email`), cancelling a scheduled send (`unpublish_email`), deleting
(archiving) an email (`delete_email`), changing the live/current version
  (`update_email`) or discarding/restoring work (`reset_email_draft`,
  `restore_email_revision`, `restore_email_revision_to_draft`) requires an
explicit `confirm: true`. Without it, the tool only returns a preview of what it
*would* do, and calls no HubSpot API.

Sending to your contact lists is therefore only possible through the explicitly
confirmed `publish_email`. It also requires the `marketing-email` scope on an
Enterprise portal (or a portal with the transactional email add-on). If that is
missing, HubSpot refuses the call, and your AI only gets a general error without
an explanation. If a send fails, check your HubSpot subscription first.

The barriers are built-in default settings in the connector, not an absolute
guarantee from the platform. Read the whole model in
[Actions & guardrails](https://docs.consile.ai/en/essentials/actions-and-guardrails.md).

## The token is renewed automatically

Consile renews the access to HubSpot on its own, so normal use keeps the
connection alive by itself. You only have to reconnect if you revoke the access in HubSpot
yourself, or if HubSpot deactivates it for other reasons.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If you revoke the access in HubSpot, or uninstall the Consile HubSpot Marketing
> Email app, the connection stops working, and the connector's tools answer with a
> message that HubSpot must be reconnected. Only an administrator can reconnect.
> If the **Connections** card says **Access revoked**, click **Reconnect**.
> Otherwise: disconnect as described below, and then click **Connect**. You can
> also ask your AI for a new connection link (the `connect_account` tool) and
> approve again at HubSpot.

## Revoke access

This is how you revoke the access:

* **In the portal:** an administrator clicks the menu (the three dots) next to the
connection on the **Connections** card and confirms with **Disconnect**.
Consile then deletes the stored token right away. The subscription continues. We
keep no copy of your HubSpot data, only the access itself, which is then
  removed.
* **At HubSpot:** uninstall the **Consile HubSpot Marketing Email** app in your
HubSpot portal under **Settings → Integrations → Connected Apps**. This revokes
the app's access at HubSpot. **Disconnect** in Consile does not uninstall the
app, so do both if you want the access completely gone. If you also use the
HubSpot CMS connector, it is a separate app (**Consile HubSpot CMS**), which is
  not affected.
